SniperTown Updates

Posted on September 14, 2016 by TheClowner

Snipertown is by far, our most popular minigame. Which is great – since this is the only server you can play it on!

There are however a few things that have kinda been bugging me, and some other people, about it as things stand. So I fixed them.

  • The status for each SniperTown server is now displayed in the hub before you join. This includes the time until it starts once there are more than 4 players.
  • Once the game starts, if you attempt to join the server – instead of kicking you, SniperTown will now allow you to spectate the game!
  • A few messages and broadcasts on the SniperTown servers have been tweaked, the time to start is now announced in chat, as well as the team allocations for all new players.

We’ve also added a new map, Built by HaannahBananaa and Wizkrys. You can play the new map on SniperTown 2, or the original map on SniperTown 1.

Along with these tweaks and fixes, we’ve also rebalanced the kits somewhat:

Default: (Free)
Infinity Bow
Chainmail Armour (used to be leather)

Challenge: (Free)
Bow + 16 Arrows
Leather Armour

Cactus: (18 Tokens)
Infinity Bow (used to have Power 1 and Punch 1)
Leather Armour with Thorns 3

FlameThrower: (24 Tokens)
Flame, Infinity Bow
Leather Armour

Overpowered: (28 Tokens)
Bow + 16 Arrows (used to be 32 Arrows)
Diamond Armour (Durability now lowered to 40)

Hard Hitter: (16 Tokens)
Punch 2, Infinity Bow
Chainmail Armour (used to have protection 1/2)

Tank: (24 Tokens)
Infinity Bow
Iron Armour, Protection 1 (used to be protection 2 on helmet and 3 on boots)

I don’t need armour: (5 Tokens)
Power 1, Infinity Bow (used to be power 2)
No Armour

Wealthy: (10 Tokens)
Bow + 256 Arrows
Gold Armour

We hope you’ll continue to enjoy playing snipertown (or enjoy it even more). And please do leave your feedback about these changes, or any ideas for new minigames etc on our forum!

New Shop!

Posted on September 7, 2016 by TheClowner

So, a while ago now we mentioned we were making a new shop. It’s finally finished. Well almost.

We will be opening the new shop on the 10th September!

Our new shop includes:

  • A server buy and sell shop, both of which with a wider range of items you can purchase.
28 spaces which can be rented by players!
  • The shops come in a few different sizes, but they’re all larger than most of the shops at the current /warp shop.
  • The shops are priced based on the amount of square blocks they make up, at $60/block – charged every 2 weeks. This is cheaper than the current shop which is $100/block.
  • A map. Like, you could actually find someone’s shop far easier… since every shop has a number.

While the new shop is exciting, there is one small loose-end we need to clear up: The current shop.
If you currently rent a shop there, you need to remove everything thats inside your shop before the 16th September, after which all the shops will be cleared (and no longer rentable). Once the new shop launches you will be able to use /warp oldshop to access the old shop.

New Stuff! (Yes. More of it.)

Posted on August 17, 2016 by TheClowner

As many of you have already noticed,
ServerX, ServerY and ServerZ have reappeared. That can only mean one thing:

We’re working on new servers for the network!

Yeah, that didn’t really need to be so big.
But you get the point. We like to do things different at ClownerCraft/LogistiCraft and so we hope the new additions will be unique to the network – hence we’re not going to share much about them for now.

However, we can tell you that ServerY will be replacing our Spleef server. It’s going to be sad to see it go – but we don’t see it being used enough to warrant keeping it.

Anyway – the new things will all be linked into the token economy, giving you more options to both spend and earn tokens!

Oh, you can look at this though:

Server Lag and Upcoming Downtime

Posted on July 16, 2016 by TheClowner

EDIT: The server has now been upgraded. The work is complete, and if you notice any issues – please notify us with the contact form on the bottom right of our site.

As many people are beginning to notice, survival is starting to experience quite a lot of tick lag, mainly when there are 20+ players on. We’ve been aware of this for a little while, and have been trying to remedy it. However, we have now come to the conclusion that the dedicated server we rent just isn’t up to the task of running ClownerCraft anymore.

This may get a bit computer sciencey… just to warn you.
The issue we have is with the server’s CPU. For most applications we would be perfectly fine. But theres one serious caveat with minecraft/java – it does not make use of multi-core or parallel processing architectures. Virtually any modern CPU will be multi-core – especially with a server. Since servers are intended to serve as many users as it can having multiple processors is really really useful for this. However, minecraft servers will only make use of one core. So in our case, survival is using up all of one core, and reaching the peak the cpu can handle, while the other 7 cores are virtually idle (the other servers on the network will utilise the other cores, hence if you go play on PS, or any of the minigames the lag overall will decrease as the workload will be split across multiple cores).

I do want to note that when selecting this server, we did choose the CPU based on a server network (which is what we are). But we didn’t account for one server taking a majority of the load.

TL;DR The servers CPU is too slow.

What this all means, is that we need to change our hosting package – to one with a faster processor. And then we have to transfer all 150GB+ of data from one server to another. As well as setting up some of the software we need on a new server.

To try and reduce the amount of time that our network will be down for, this will be staged.

Stage 1: 18th – 22nd July
Software setup: Installing control panels, and other software that’s used to make stuff work on the server.

Stage 2: 23rd – 24th July
Websites: The websites will be copied across to new server, and ready to go live after the transfer process is complete.

Stage 3: 25th – 28th July
Minigames Servers: Servers which do not require user information to function (SpherePVP, Snipertown, SG, CTF, Spleef, The Hub) will be moved to the new server first. These will be down for hopefully only a few hours, and then can come back online after.

Stage 4: 8th – 10th August
PureSurvival and Creative servers will go offline to be trannsferred. Unlike the minigame servers, these will not come back online until the whole transfer is complete.

Stage 5: 11th – 12th August
ClownerCraft Survival will go offline, as the final pieces are copied over. Any remaining Databases will also be transferred at this point.

After all this, the server’s domain (clownercraft.net) can be pointed to the new server.

Please be aware, that while these are the planned dates for downtimes – if things go wrong somewhere there may be delays, we may also find we need to spend a while checking everything is in good order after the transfer – which again could mean that the servers will stay offline just a little longer.

The current expected date of completion is 13th August.

Sorry for any inconvenience this downtime may cause.

This post will be updated with any updates.

Fireworks Contest Winners!

Posted on June 23, 2016 by TheClowner

The fireworks contest was an interesting one.
Most of the entries were very good.

Before I announce the winners I do want to say this:
We penalised laggy displays. When we judge this, you don’t score highly if out games just die of lag. That’s just not a very good show in my opinion.

The winners, and their displays can be seen in this video:

3rd Place: ms_pink_mermaid
2nd Place: Imprimis
1st Place: DoctorFail

Your prizes have already been awarded.
